NYT helps Boehner whip votes for debt limit deal

One of the remaining obstacles to the debt limit deal becoming law is that House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, will have to make sure his caucus is as unified as possible in support so he doesn't have to depend on Democrats to deliver as many votes. The New York Times made that task a lot easier in its editorial this morning that describes the deal as a "nearly complete capitulation to the hostage-taking demands of Republican extremists."

One can imagine Boehner telling his fellow Republicans, "Hey, if the New York Times hates it, it can't be all bad, right?"

Paul Krugman gets the added assist, with his column lamenting the deal as a surrender to "raw extortion" that will mean "disaster."
