NYC silenced tour buses, why not SF?

Not too long ago, the Examiner reported about Board of Supervisors President David Chiu’s effort to address concerns about open-air tour buses brought to him by merchants and community members. Among the complaints was the noise of the tour guides on the buses using a public address system to point out San Francisco’s beloved sights and attractions. The Noise Task Force got involved and was considering some recommendations on how to solve the problem. No word yet on final recommendations, but New York City has taken a step that SF might want to take notice of.

According to the Associated Press, the New York City Council passed a law requiring the double-decker tour buses in that city to use a headphone system instead of the loudspeakers, and it’s got the support of Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
