NY storms, Bay Area clouds causing SFO delays

Thunderstorms causing a ruckus in the New York area have dealt long delays for flight headed there from San Francisco International Airport, and low clouds in the Bay Area could cause 30- to 45 minute-delays for arriving short-haul flights, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and SFO officials.

Flight delays from SFO to Newark International Airport and La Guardia Airport are averaging 1 hour, 47 minutes and 1 hour, 28 minutes, respectively, the FAA reported.

Meanwhile, short-haul flights into SFO – those arriving from Seattle, Phoenix or closer – might be delayed by the fog between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., though airport duty manager Joseph Walsh said the clouds muddying their paths could clear up earlier.

However, departing flights remain on schedule despite the cloud cover, except those headed to the New York area, Walsh said.
