Nvidia, Electronic Arts finish strong 

Virtualization giant VMWare Inc. (VMW) of Palo Alto, showed the biggest decline at the close of the market today among local stocks tracked by The Examiner, with a drop of more than 4.2 percent. Sunnyvale-based Intuitive Surgical Inc. (ISRG) also fell, with a drop of more than 3.1 percent at the close of market.

On the plus side, Santa Clara-based Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) was a top gainer, increasing more than 3.8 percent, followed by Redwood City-based Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS), which rose more than 2.9 percent.

The markets were up slightly overall, with the Dow Jones up 0.2 percent, the Nasdaq more than 0.05 percent and the S&P 500 by 0.08 percent.

Google Inc.’s OpenSocial initiative was in the news, with analysts speculating about whether it will make more money for the internet giant on EWeek.com. San Ramon’s Chevron Corp. (CVX) also was in the news after posting a third-quarter loss.
