Nonprofit seeks hikers for a cause

If someone tells you to go take a hike this September, don’t jump to conclusions. The San Mateo-based CORA nonprofit — Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse — is inviting folks to hoof it for a good cause on its fundraising Take a Hike ’08 excursion.

For three days and two nights, from Sept. 5-7, hikers young and old, novice and seasoned, will explore Pinnacles National Monument near Hollister, with transportation, camping gear and team leaders provided.

Last year, CORA, the only comprehensive domestic-violenceservices agency in San Mateo County — which helps roughly 6,000 people annually — raised more than $100,000 for the cause.

Hikers will also be trained in soliciting donations, so don’t worry. Just worry about those campfire ghost stories instead.
