Nonprofit honors real estate community

San Francisco-based EARN, a nonprofit that helps low-income residents save money toward a home, small business or their children’s education, is honoring several local companies and organizations for their contributions Friday.

The 2007 "EARNie" award winners, presented Dec. 7 at the "Welcome Home Breakfast," include Fidelity National Title Company, which has made a two-year, $50,000 commitment to help EARN savers purchase homes. The company also has 13 employees serving as auxiliary members, real estate professionals who donate funds toward the program that are matched by federal dollars.

The San Francisco Association of Realtors has helped publicise the program and made a grant of $25,000.

Amanda Jones of Vanguard Properties and Thomas Murray Jr. of Triton Funding Group, founding members of the EARN Auxiliary Leadership Council, will also be recognized for their efforts in fundraising, donations and outreach.

Earn has helped 55 families buy homes so far this year.
