No strike for Safeway janitors, deal ratified 

Safeway shoppers can expect clean aisles this weekend after a strike of 450 janitors was not only averted, but a tentative deal was finalized on Saturday.

SEIU United Service Workers West, Local 1877, which represents janitors at Northern California Safeway supermarkets have been bargaining for five months with management, according to union spokeswoman Rachele Huennekens.

The janitors were ready for a strike on Friday when the tentative deal was reached. On Saturday, about 100 janitors ratified the contract.
