Niners to drop some ticket prices, raise others 

The 49ers will be lowering the price of 2,000 season tickets from $49 to $25 per game next season, but the news is not all good for the Faithful — the team will also raise the price of 5,000 premium season tickets from $64 to $84 per game.

The new prices will go into effect beginning with preseason games in August. Group-discount season tickets for parties of 20 or more will also be discounted from $35 to $25 per person.

"The majority of $49 seats were selling as single-game seats, and we want to create incentives for single-game buyers to buy season tickets. We made a commitment to provide more affordable prices so more fans could attend our games," David Peart, director of sales and marketing for the team, said.

The price for the $64 "best seats in the house" will also increase to $84 in August, Peart said.

The 49ers recently signed a lease for the 68,500-capacity Monster Park stadium at Candlestick Point that is supposed to last through 2013. However, the team has been pushing for a new stadium by 2012 and has threatened to eventually move to Santa Clara.

The 49ers were the last NFL team to introduce multitiered ticket prices, as all tickets to its home games, regardless of seat location, cost $64 until the $49 tickets were made available in 2006.

According to the 2006 Team Marketing Report, the average 49ers ticket cost went down 0.5 percent to $63.70 in 2006 — while most other NFL teams raised their prices an average of 5.6 percent.

"We are reasonably priced. Our most expensive seats are less than the majority of NFL teams," Peart said.

The New England Patriots have the highest average ticket price at $90.89; the lowest average ticket price is $41.29, for Buffalo Bills games.

The City’s Recreation and Park Department leases the stadium to the San Francisco 49ers, and its commission unanimously agreed to the new ticket prices at a hearing Thursday. The department also oversees 225 parks and other community centers within city limits.

"This will be good for business all around," department spokeswoman Rose Marie Dennis said, adding that the park’s admissions, concessions, parking and other ticket fees are projected to bring $6.8 million to The City’s 2006-07 budget.
