  • An ESPN report said the 49ers are set to release cornerback Carlos Rogers in a cap-saving move.
The 49ers reportedly are set to release cornerback Carlos Rogers, but as of Monday’s official NFL transactions, had yet to do so.

ESPN reported Monday that the Niners had made the decision to cut ties with Rogers, which would reportedly save them $5.1 million in salary cap space next year.

Rogers would be the latest member of the 49ers’ secondary to hit the open market, as safety Donte Whitner and cornerback Tarell Brown will also become free agents Tuesday.

NFL free agency officially gets underway Tuesday at 1 p.m.
