Newsom: You got a better jobs idea, supes?

Mayor Gavin Newsom on Monday challenged the Board of Supervisors to come up with a viable plan to create jobs in The City, saying they shouldn’t strike down his ideas without coming up with their own.

Newsom said he is still awaiting a response from the Board of Supervisors about his proposed package of business tax breaks.

The package wasn’t well received by the supervisor who leads the powerful budget committee.

Newsom says the package would help remedy The City’s “remarkably high” unemployment rate, which is hovering at around 10 percent.

To the supervisors who dislike the proposal, Newsom said:

“Reject it and come up with a better idea.”

What’s annoying, Newsom said, is that no one in City Hall has pitched a viable solution to The City’s unemployment problem during the last year. It is wrong that the supes would not “give us the dignity of making a case” for the tax breaks, he said.
