Newsom says to blame Arnie

If you notice higher transit fares and fewer buses coming down the pike, Mayor Gavin Newsom wants you to blame Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The mayor sent out a statement Wednesday expressing his disappointment in the governor’s planned veto of a much-needed transit funding legislation that would have sent $36 million to San Francisco for Muni.

“I urge the Governor to reconsider his veto threat against ABX8 9,” Newsom said in the released statement.

Newsom reminded the public that in the past three years, the state has cut $179.1 million in transit funding for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, with another $78.3 million in cuts expected next year.
