Newsom Police Commission appointee held up, but not for long

What a difference a few days make. After holding up Mayor Gavin Newsom’s reappointment of the President of the Police Commission Joseph Marshall, the Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on Thursday sent the appointment forward to the full board for confirmation. Marshall’s appointment was held up on May 20 over a fight over a federal immigration program.

“I wanted to though have an opportunity to give you more time to perhaps learn more about ‘Secure Communities’ and maybe talk to some community members,” Campos said to Marshall.

The committee’s May 20 action was blasted by Newsom.

“That meeting the last one went a little bit differently than I expected,” Marshall told the committee at the start Thursday.
