Newsom meets with Barneys over basement dispute

Mayor Gavin Newsom held a meeting Tuesday morning with representatives from Barneys who had appealed The City’s decision to revoke a permit to allow for use of sub-sidewalk space to make way for the Central Subway project. Barneys currently uses the space for retail.

The 10 a.m. meeting, which ran for about 40 minutes, had Barneys reps expressing sentiments such as that they don’t want to derail the Central Subway Project, and they want to arrive at some resolution and certainly need more time to negotiate and figure things out.

That meeting, however, doesn’t sound as if it has bought Barneys more time. But the test comes as early as Tuesday. The Board of Supervisors has scheduled a January 12 meeting to vote on the appeal of the permit revocation.  It could be postponed as late as the day of the meeting.
