Newsom is to tax cuts like Obama is to health care

Mayor Gavin Newsom pulled out an interesting metaphor about his efforts to provide tax breaks for businesses that provide jobs, that it’s like President Barack Obama’s fight to reform health care.

In his Weekly YouTube address, Newsom fought on for his “local stimulus package,” which includes a two-year payroll tax “holiday,” and a $2,000 payroll tax credit to employers are complying with The City’s Health Care Security Ordinance.

The tax breaks have been all but shot down at the Board of Supervisors as The City faces a $522 million deficit. But Newsom still has a fighting chance because the committee has yet to officially vote them down.

“We hope to get the Board to give us an up or down vote, along the lines of what Obama wants on health care,” Newsom said. “We want the same opportunity at the Board of Supervisors for these tax incentives to create new jobs as well.”
