Newsom dedicates Three Heads Six Arms statue

In conjunction with the Shanghai-San Francisco Sister City 30th Anniversary Celebration, Mayor Gavin Newsom dedicated the colossal Three Heads Six Arms statue at City Hall Wednesday morning. The installation is making its world premiere in the heart of San Francisco’s Civic Center.

“By bringing this incredible work of art to The City, we underscore Shanghai and San Francisco’s bond as two of the world’s most important centers for arts and culture,” Newsom said.

The copper sculpture is 26 feet tall, weighing almost 15 tons. Three Heads Six Arms is part of an important series of monumental works depicting the arms, legs, feet, hands and heads of Buddhist sculptures, according to the mayor’s office.
