Newsom attacks Obama in New York Times interview

Mayor Gavin Newsom took several shots at President Barack Obama in a recent interview with the New York Times.

Speaking with op-ed columnist Maureen Dowd, Newsom did not hold back criticism of his fellow Democrat (although the mayor was a vocal supporter of one-time Obama rival Hillary Clinton), “there’s a growing discontent and lack of enthusiasm” for the President as he completes his first year.

Newsom also said he was  “very upset by what he’s not done in terms of rights of gays and lesbians.” He even was so far as to say that the President does not believe in same sex marriage.

“There is some belief that he actually doesn’t want same-sex marriage,” Newsom is quoted as saying. “It’s fundamentally inexcusable for a member of the Democratic Party to stand up for the principle that separate is now equal, but only on the basis of sexual orientation.”
