Newsom announces $92M to clean up Hunters Point Shipyard

Mayor Gavin Newsom, who is flying back Washington, D.C., announced that $92 million in federal funding was secured to pay for the clean up of the Hunters Point Shipyard.

“This is a significant achievement for the entire City and in particular the Bayview-Hunters Point community and will bring new life and opportunity to one of our most at-risk neighborhoods,” said Mayor Gavin Newsom, in a statement released by the Mayor’s Office. “These funds will allow the City to continue to move forward with plans to transform the long abandoned shipyard from an environmental blight into a job-producing economic engine for all of San Francisco.”

The City’s development plans for the area include the construction of 10,500 residential units.
