New message signs with twice the info could be coming to Caltrain stations

Passengers waiting at five different Caltrain stations could soon get important rider announcements at twice as the normal speed.

The agency currently uses single-line graphics for its message board signs, but its Board of Directors are poised to sign a $380,000 contract that would double up the info capability at stations in San Francisco, Hillsdale, Sunnyvale, San Jose, and Tamien.

The two-line technology would provide quicker information to riders, coordinate with the agency’s new on-time arrival message boards, and cut down on the data-input work needed from information clerks, according to Caltrain documents.

Caltrain’s Board of Directors will vote on the contract proposal at its meeting on Thursday.
