New editor named for SF Weekly

Mark Kemp has been hired as the new editor of SF Weekly.

Kemp, who most recently was editor of Acoustic Guitar magazine, is former editor-in-chief at Creative Loafing, an alt-weekly publication in Charlotte, N.C.

A native of North Carolina, Kemp replaces Brandon Reynolds, who has led editorial operations at SF Weekly since 2012.

"I'm excited to take over at the SF Weekly, where I plan to strengthen its focus on city politics, culture and the arts," Kemp said. "San Francisco is a city full of stories that I can't wait to tell. We have a great staff and I look forward to seeing what we can do together."

A noted music journalist, Kemp has also served as the entertainment editor at The Charlotte Observer, senior music editor at Rolling Stone magazine and vice president of music editorial at MTV Networks. He is the author of "Dixie Lullaby: A Story of Music, Race, and New Beginnings in a New South," published in 2004.

"We are thrilled to have Mark come to the SF Weekly," said Glenn Zuehls, publisher of the San Francisco Media Co., which includes SF Weekly and The San Francisco Examiner. "His experience, talents and leadership will be a huge boost to our ability to expand our coverage of The City."
