New Department of Environment head coming soon

The Environment Commission meets Tuesday in closed session to discuss recommendations made by the department’s director search committee. The commission may vote to recommend candidates to Mayor Gavin Newsom, who would pick from the pool The City’s next director for the Department of Environment.

The meeting occurs at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall in Room 416.

The department was led by Jared Blumenfeld until he left The City to work as the U.S. EPA Region 9 administrator in the President Barack Obama administration. He had made his intention clear prior to the president’s election that if Obama won he wanted a post and the call came.

Blumenfeld was also a key adviser to Newsom in helping to craft a number of green initiatives.
