Needless heart surgeries

Dr. Marc Midei’s medical license was revoked by the Maryland Board of Physicians on charges that he gave nearly 600 of his patients needless heart surgeries — mostly $20,000 artery stent installations. The board reported that in four out of five stent operations they reviewed, Midei deliberately lied to patients about how blocked their arteries were. In at least one case, he claimed a 10 percent blockage was 90 percent. Hundreds of patients are already suing him.
