98 percent restored of nearly 200k PG&E customers who lost power 

PG&E crews have restored power to 98 percent of the 195,500 customers who had outages in the Bay Area during Tuesday's strong windstorm, utility officials said today.

About 3,500 customers in the region remained without power as of about 10 a.m., including 1,300 in the South Bay, 800 on the Peninsula, 700 in San Francisco, 500 in the East Bay and 200 in the North Bay.

The windstorm that hit the Bay Area on Tuesday and early this morning has led to downed trees and other debris that impacted utility infrastructure, PG&E officials said.

The most recent large outage started around 5:30 a.m. today in San Francisco, where about 6,000 customers lost power in portions of Nob Hill, Russian Hill, Telegraph Hill and Pier 39, according to PG&E.

About 1,500 PG&E employees have been dispatched around the utility's system to handle the response to the storm.
