NCAA Tournament teams on USF men’s hoops schedule

Nonconference games against two NCAA Tournament teams highlight the USF men’s basketball schedule announced Monday.

The Dons, who went 21-12 last season and lost to LSU in the first round of the NIT, open the season Nov. 16 by hosting South Carollina State at War Memorial Gymnasium.

Colorado of the Pac-12 Conference and Cal Poly San Louis Obispo of the Big Sky Conference each participated in the Big Dance last season. The Buffaloes host USF on Dec. 3, while the Mustangs travel to War Memorial on Dec. 15.

USF opens West Coast Conference play with road games against Pacific (Dec. 27) at rival St. Mary’s (Dec. 29). San Diego visits the Hilltop for a New Year’s Day game, the first WCC home game, while BYU will also visit that weekend on Jan. 3.

Key returning players for Dons coach Rex Walters this season are junior forward Mark Tollefson and senior forward Kruize Pinkins.
