Volunteers and park rangers band together in the effort to rescue hundreds of seabirds found coated in an unknown, gooey substance along the eastern San Francisco Bay shoreline. East Bay Parks rangers 37-year-old Chris Benoit (green hat) and Joel Eisler, 24, (tan hat) join Wildlife Emergency Services CEO Rebecca Dmytryk and her husband Duane Titus in the last rescue attempt of the day along the Hayward shoreline of the San Francisco Bay Tuesday. Dead birds that the group found are pictured on the shore and in a plastic bag on the tailgate of the park rangers' truck. Benoit and Eisler can be seen placing a live soiled bird into a carry crate to transport it from the shoreline to a mobile stabilization hospital.
