Muni shut down, man struck on tracks

Muni Metro service was shut down for more than hour Monday evening after a J-Church train struck a person walking on the tracks.

The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m., according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority Paul Rose.

The J light rail vehicle was pulling into the Civic Center Station when it hit a person walking on the tracks, according to Rose. The person was just before the station platform.

It is not known why the person, described only as a male, was on the tracks. He was transported to the hospital, in unknown condition.

The incident halted underground train service at the height of the evening commute. Bus bridges were put in place from Embarcadero to Church stations. Trains headed into the tunnel turned around before entering until roughly 6:15 when full service was restored.
