Muni N-Judah light rail vehicle strikes car in Sunset district

An N-Judah light rail vehicle reportedly rear-ended a car in the Sunset district Tuesday, injuring the driver of the car, a Muni spokesman said.

The car’s driver, a female, was “up and talking” after the front of the light rail vehicle smashed into the rear of her car, spokesman Paul Rose said. She was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with minor injuries, he said.

The accident occurred at 24th and Judah avenues around 7:30 a.m., a city fire dispatcher said. No passengers were on the train, Rose said.

For about an hour, Muni ran bus shuttles in each direction between 22nd Avenue and Ocean Beach, Rose said. Normal LRV service was restored around 8:25 a.m., he said.

The accident is under investigation. The driver has been placed on non-driving status and will undergo drug and alcohol tests, per standard protocal, Rose said.
