Muni employee arrested on grand theft, embezzlement charges

A Muni employee was arrested Friday on suspicion of grand theft and embezzlement, police said in a statement Wednesday.

Osvaldo Lugo, 59, of Lathrop is alleged to have used his position in the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency to fill his personal vehicle with gas that was reserved for the city vehicles for approximately one year, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The theft reportedly amounted to thousands of dollars worth of gasoline.

The Police Department initiated the investigation into Lugo’s activities in June at the behest of the transit agency.
