Muni driver caught texting while driving, according to report

It’s been a week of bad news for Muni operators, particularly those performing egregious acts caught on videotape by shocked transit passengers.

Last Friday, a Muni rider captured footage of light-rail vehicle travelling through the subway system with its door open — a development the operator of the train might have been well aware of. Muni has placed the operator on non-driving status while they investigate the situation.

Now, KTVU is reporting that a passenger captured footage of a Muni operator texting on her phone while driving a bus. The incident, which happened in February, resulted in the three-day suspension of the driver, who was outraged at being caught on videotape while texting, and threatened to never pick up the passenger again.

The latest incidents can’t be considered good leveraging materials for the operators union, which is in the midst of historic labor negotiations with management.
