Muni disrupted by stabbing at Third and Kirkwood station

A stabbing on a Muni platform in the Bayview district on Tuesday morning temporarily halted service on the light-rail line so that police could search for the assailant, but there were no immediate arrests and the victim was not being very cooperative, police said.

The stabbing resulted from a squabble at the Muni station at Third Street and Kirkwood Avenue that became bloody just before 10 a.m., Sgt. Troy Dangerfield said.

The victim and suspects are residents of the neighborhood, who were hanging out on the platform when an argument broke out. One thug involved left to fetch some buddies, and as many as 10 people were on the platform when the victim was stabbed three times, police said.

The male victim was expected to survive, Dangerfield said. Descriptions of the suspects were not immediately available.

The T-Third rail line was shut down temporarily, since police suspected the assailants may have hopped on the line, Dangerfield said. That was not the case, he added.

The stabbed victim was accompanied by his girlfriend, though neither was prepared to tell police the whole story, authorities said.
