San Franciscans are on the same page in thinking that the condition of The City’s streets is poor, but they are split over whether the sidewalks are clean or not.

A new citywide survey polled the attitudes of nearly 4,000 residents on a number of topics, including Muni; public safety; streets and sidewalks; and parks.

Mayor Ed Lee released a statement calling the results of the survey good and bad. The mayor said while The City is making progress in some areas despite leaner budgets, the streets and Muni need to be fixed.

He recommended voters pass the $248 million streets bond on the Nov. 8 ballot, which he concedes is one of government’s basic functions and shouldn’t require a bond, but was made necessary by years of neglect by city leaders. He said Muni officials are moving forward to improve “one of the nation’s most heavily used transit systems.”

“While we are seeing positive results from our investments, we can see where we need to do better,” Lee said.
