MTC taking applications for Bike Commuter of the Year award

Do you know of a dogged and determined bicycle commuter?

Someone willing to take their two-wheeler to work, even in the face of the most miserable weather conditions?

If so, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission wants your input in deciding who to name the agency’s 2010 Bike Commuter of the Year.

For the past 15 years, the MTC, the region’s lead planning organization, has been naming a top bike commuter for each of the Bay Area’s nine counties.

For this year’s honors, the agency is asking participants to submit a form with the nominee’s name, email, county and a 200-word writeup on why that particular bicyclist deserves to be honored. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on April 19.

Last year’s San Francisco County winner, Dr. Shirley Johnson, was the founder of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition’s Bike ONBoard campaign, a successful effort to include more space for bikes on Caltrain vehicles.
