MTC sets regional planning, transportation goals for future

Cutting traffic-related deaths in half, increasing the time people walk or bike by 15 minutes a day, and decrease the number of miles traveled by cars by 10 percent are some of the long-term goals approved by regional officials.

These performance objectives were discussed last week by members of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the Bay Area’s lead planning and transportation agency. On Wednesday, at the MTC’s full board meeting, the performance objectives will be up for final authorization.

Other goals from the list include reduced deaths from exposure to harmful particulates, decreasing the costs of transit travel for low-income residents and cutting down on automobile emissions.
