Move to restrict Yellow Pages goes to San Francisco Board of Supervisors

A controversial proposal to restrict distribution of the Yellow Pages is set to come before the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

The proposal from Board of Supervisors President David Chiu aims to reduce waste and city costs by establishing a 3-year pilot program requiring Yellow Pages distributors to ask residents and businesses if they want a copy of a directory before they are delivered.

Yellow Pages producers have said the plan would lead to job losses and harm small businesses that rely on the phone books for advertising.

The board meets at 2 p.m. at City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton Goodlett Place.
