Mountain View police officer arrested for possession of child pornography

On Tuesday, police served a search warrant at the San Jose home of a Mountain View police officer.

Police say they found child pornography on a computer belonging to 36-year-old Kevin Nguyen, a seven-year veteran of the Mountain View Police Department. Nguyen was then arrested for felony possession of child pornography and booked into Santa Clara County Jail.

In an open letter to the community, the Mountain View Police Department stated that Nguyen was placed on paid administrative leave following his arrest.

In the letter, the department stated, "If true, the allegation against Officer Nguyen is deeply unsettling. However, we trust and have faith in our judicial system to conduct a thorough investigation resulting in the appropriate outcome." The letter also announced that the department would conduct its own internal investigation into Nguyen, while the San Jose Police Department handles the criminal investigation.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the police department's Child Exploits Detail at (408) 537-1381.
