Mountain View man charged with domestic violence, assault against former girlfriend

A Mountain View man charged with multiple counts of domestic violence and assault and battery charges after he allegedly beat up his ex-girlfriend in July pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

Yishun Dong, 32, and his former girlfriend are both students in a master’s-doctorate engineering program at Stanford University and dated for about a year before they broke up in June, Wagstaffe said.

On July 19, Dong is alleged to have gone over to her Menlo Park apartment and assaulted her, striking her six to seven times violently, Wagstaffe said.

The victim was hospitalized and had to have surgery for a fracture around the eye, Wagstaffe said. She initially denied her ex-boyfriend was responsible for the attack but eventually reported the incident to police.

Dong was in court Wednesday for arraignment, and he pleaded not guilty, Wagstaffe said.

His next hearing is scheduled for Nov. 17. Dong is currently out of custody on $50,000 bail.
