Mother accused of driving daughter to assault

The mother of a 13-year-old girl was arrested in Fremont after she allegedly encouraged and participated in a fight between her daughter and another girl, Fremont Police Det. Bill Veteran said today.

On Wednesday, Fremont resident Tomeka Harper, 36, allegedly drove her daughter to find another 13-year-old girl who had insulted the girl on the Internet, Veteran said.

At about 3 p.m., Harper and her daughter located the victim outside of a gas station on Fremont and Stevenson boulevards in Fremont, Veteran said. Harper encouraged her daughter to confront the victim and engage in a physical altercation with the girl, according to Veteran.

In the course of the fight, which was videotaped by a witness, Harper allegedly became involved and also assaulted the victim.

The victim's mother broke up the fight, and Harper was arrested when police arrived on the scene, Veteran said.

Harper was taken into custody and charged with several felony counts including assault with a deadly weapon, battery against a minor and contributing to the delinquent behavior of a minor, Veteran said. She is being held on $150,000 bail.
