Morning stock check: SunPower up, BEA down 

For the second day in a row, SunPower Corp. (SPWR) leads local companies in opening gains with shares up more than 5 percent this morning. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) and Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS) are also trending upĀ in early trading this morning.

On the reverse side, BEA Systems, Inc. (BEAS), the San Jose service infrastructure company, is down more than 3 percent per share while software security company McAfee, Inc. (MFE) and Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) are also trending down.

The companies trading at the highest volume are Applied Materials, Inc. (AMAT) and Intel Corp. (INTC) with 15.62 million and 15.49 million shares changing hands respectively.

Overall, the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index is trending up since just before 7 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.

In other stock news, Applied Materials' income fell by 6 percent in the fourth quarter, according to MarketWatch.com. Also, EMC Corp. does not plan to sell its shares of VMware, Inc. (VMW), according to Bizjournals.
