Morning stock check: Intel up, VMware down 

Stocks of Intel Corporation (INTC) were up 1.3 percent, performing best, among local stocks tracked by The Examiner, in early trading Friday morning. The Charles Schwab Corporation (SCHW) and Apple Inc. (AAPL), shares of which broke $200 each this week, were also trading up.

VMware, Inc. (VMW) was down more than 1.5 percent in early trading, as were SanDisk Corporation (SNDK) and SunPower Corporation (SPWR).

Cisco Systems, Inc. (CSCO), Intel Corporation and Apple Inc. were trading at highest volume on Friday morning, each with between 5.5 million and 7.6 million shares changing hands.

Overall, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has been up and down since the start of business on Friday, but was trending up nearly a quarter of a percent as the workday got going on the west coast.

In other stock market news, United Food and Commercial Workers said Friday that it voted to approve afour-year labor contract for Safeway and Vons supermarket employees in Northern California. Also, The Gap Inc. (GPS) announced a voluntary recall of more than 16,000 of its "warmest jacket," citing waist drawstrings that could potentially trap its wearer in the garment.
