Morning stock check: EA up, Intuitive Surgical down 

A day after the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index dropped more than 360 points, local video game company Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS) is up more than 4 percent per share in early trading. Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) and salesforce.com, inc. (CRM) are also posting small early gains this morning.

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (ISRG) is down more than 3 percent to start the day. Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (CDNS) and VMware, Inc. (VMW) are also trending down.

Companies trading at the highest volumes this Friday are major computer and information technology business: Sun Microsystems, Inc. (JAVA), Intel Corp. (INTC) and Cisco Systems, Inc. (CSCO).

Overall, the Dow is slightly down this morning, but not nearly as much as Thursday’s early morning losses.

In other stock news, Electronic Arts posted a net loss for the second quarter, but a new product line buoyed the company’s share prices, according to The Associated Press. Also, MySpace.com, the Internet social-networking site, is joining Google, Inc. (GOOG) in its platform for sharing applications across the Web, according to the AP.
