Morning stock check: BEA Systems up 30 percent 

Shares of San Jose-based infrastructure software company BEA Systems, Inc. (BEAS) were up more than 30 percent (or $4.50 a share) and the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index was up more than 40 points in early trading after opening at 14,016.34.

Also up in early trading was video game company Electronic Arts, Inc. (ERTS) out of Redwood City. Shares were up more than three percent.

Trading down early today was the McKesson Corp. (MCK), a San Francisco-based health care industry information and services provider. Shares of McKesson were down more than one percent after opening today at $59.57 a share.

BEA Systems was also trading at the highest volume among local companies with 117.17 million shares changing hands. Sun Microsystems, Inc. (JAVA) was next with a volume of 13.16 million shares.

In related business news Oracle Corp. (ORCL) offered to buy BEA Systems for $6.7 billion, according to Bloomberg reports. And shares of Electronic Arts rose today after the company said it expected to exceed second quarter profit forecasts, according to an Associated Press report on Forbes.com.
