A second woman has come forward with allegations of domestic violence against Ross Mirkarimi, according to a law enforcement source.

The woman filed a report with San Francisco police over the weekend alleging that Mirkarimi shook her and grabbed her by the arm while the two were dating in 2008, according to the law enforcement source who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The woman told police the incident left her bruised and that Mirkarimi was controlling and had anger issues, the source said.

Because the incident happened so long ago the statute of limitations may have run if it were deemed a misdemeanor, the source said. However, the other woman’s allegations could be used by prosecutors to show a pattern of abusive behavior by Mirkarimi in their highly publicized domestic violence case against the sheriff involving his wife, Venezuelan soap opera actress Eliana Lopez.

The latest allegations came to light on the same day that the San Francisco sheriff was in court to have a trial date set for the three charges he faces connected to a New Year’s Eve incident at his Western Addition home with Lopez. The trial is set to begin on Feb. 24. The court has barred Mirkarimi from having any contact with Lopez or their 2-year-old son until the case is resolved.

Mirkarimi – a former two-term supervisor who was elected sheriff in November – has been charged and pleaded not guilty to three misdemeanors: domestic violence battery, child endangerment and dissuading a witness. He is currently free on $35,000 bail.

The couple has publicly denied there was any abuse, and the sheriff has called it “a private matter, a family matter.”

The case moved ahead after a search warrant was served on the couple’s neighbor, Ivory Madison. According to court documents, Lopez went to Madison after the incident and the neighbor made a video recording of bruising on Lopez’s arm.
