More beaches close in wake of spill

More beaches are closed this morning due to the 58,000 gallons of oil spilled into the San Francisco Bay on Wednesday.

Crissy Field, Fort Point, Baker Beach, China Beach and Kirby Cove in Marin are closed due to the slick, and authorities from more than 10 agencies are meeting this morning to discuss clean-up efforts. Fuel has been reported at Hunter’s Point as well as Alcatraz Island and other points in Marin County.

The spill happened Wednesday when the South Korea-bound Cosco Busan clipped the Bay Bridge, an accident blamed on the day’s heavy fog. The bridge is undamaged because the ship hit a protective barrier, but the ship’s hull had a gash through which fuel spilled for about 30 minutes.
