Mon General lets public tour new orthopedics unit

Mon General Hospital is offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at orthopedic surgery.

The Morgantown hospital is hosting an open house from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday as it opens its new Orthopedic Center to patients for the first time.

The center has four operating rooms, 13 private pre- and post-operation rooms, and an eight-bed post-anesthesia recovery unit.

Mon Health System President Darryl Duncan says his facility now has one of the largest groups of orthopedic surgeons in the state.

He says they do about 3,600 orthopedic procedures a year and have seen a 20 percent increase in the past five years as the population ages and demand grows.
