The identity of a man shot dead in the Mission district Monday has yet to be released, but police described him Tuesday morning as a 45-year-old black man.

The victim was found with gunshot wounds to his head and chest in the unit block of Camp Street. He was shot around 2:20 a.m. and was dead on arrival, police said.

The shooter was male, but no other description of him was available Tuesday morning, police said.

Neighbors reported hearing an argument, then two shots. After a brief pause, the shooter fired at least once more, they said.

The killing marks the third homicide in the Mission in less than a week. The previous two killings were gang-related, police said. The motive for Monday's shooting remains under investigation.
