Mike Peyzner is picky when it comes to own photographer

The San Mateo resident and his fiancée are Bay Area wedding photographers. The couple’s blog at www.chocostudio.com chronicles the challenges of planning their own perfect wedding after shooting so many of them.

Has it been difficult to plan your wedding? We’ve seen it done in so many different ways, with people of different cultures and different ideas, that it kind of frees us to do it any which way we want to.

Have you found a photographer yet? First off, we’re picky. Each day we see a number of photographers’ images online and through forums and the photography conventions we go to, so we know exactly what we want. The second reason is because I don’t know how comfortable other photographers feel working for us. We didn’t even consider that it would be a problem … but they think maybe we’re trying to get information from them and not actually considering hiring them.

What characteristics are you looking for in a photographer? We’re looking for somebody who works really hard. It’s easy to do a bad job, and it’s pretty easy to do a just-OK job. But to do a great job, it takes someone who’s really motivated, who has pride in the art they create.

Have you found any photographers that meet this standard? Actually, most of the photographers we’re looking at have been outside of the Bay Area. It’s not that we’re trying to brag or show off by flying in a photographer from across the country, it’s just that we’re very picky.
