Michigan's Akunne out with foot injury

Michigan guard Eso Akunne is expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks following surgery on his left foot.

The team announced Akunne's status Thursday, a day before the scheduled operation. Akunne will have a screw inserted into his left foot to help stabilize an injury to his fifth metatarsal.

Akunne, a junior, has played 48 minutes in 12 games this season for the 20th-ranked Wolverines.

Coach John Beilein says he is confident Akunne can bounce back from his injury and possibly help the team sometime in March.
