Merchant blasts bandit with air horn

The only thing robbed in this heist was his hearing.

A robber got an earful on Monday when a Haight Street merchant whipped out an air horn to ward off the heist, police at Park Station said.

The merchant at Haight Street and Masonic Avenue told cops that a local man demanded cash from his register around 5:40 p.m. To intimidate the crook, the merchant let rip his trusted air horn, a heinous noisemaker, and feigned calling cops, police said.

The crook fled without any cash or loot. As of Wednesday, police had identified a suspect but had not announced an arrest, saying the investigation is ongoing.
