Men rob 99 Cent Store, make getaway on foot 

Redwood City police are seeking two suspects involved in an armed robbery at the 99 Cent Store at 665 El Camino Real on Thursday. The suspects entered the store, one armed with a pistol, and forced the clerk to the floor. They then stole money and merchandise,including several cell phones and fled southbound on foot. Both are described as approximately 25 to 29 years old, and both were wearing facial disguises. Anyone with information on the suspects can call the Police Department at (650) 780-7131.

Steve Westly to attend education foundation event

The Redwood City Education Foundation welcomes former State Controller Steve Westly at its first annual education symposium, a benefit for the city’s public elementary schools.

The symposium, called The Benefit for a Brighter Future, also includes a panel of guests such as School of Education Dean Deborah Stipek, longtime journalist John Merrow and Intel U.S. Education project manager Julie Dunkle. Kathryn Baron, KQED radio news anchor and education reporter, will moderate.

The event takes place between 5:30 and 8 p.m. on April 25 at Stanford University’s McCaw Hall in the Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center.


City to hold social dance for all residents older than 18

Anyone over 18 years old looking to meet new people or learn a few new steps can do so at the city’s Social Dance on April 27, from 8 to 10:30 p.m. in the Recreation Center’s Lagoon Room at 650 Shell Blvd.
