Medical examiner identifies man killed by Muni

A pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a Muni J-Church light-railvehicle last night, a spokesman from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said.

The man has been idenitified by the San Francisco medical examiner's office as John O'Neill, 47, of San Francisco.

The accident occurred around 8:40 p.m., when an inbound J-line vehicle hit the man on San Jose Avenue near the Glen Park station, a Muni spokesman said.

According to police, O'Neill was walking his dog on the tracks and when the train approached and the driver sounded a horn he was unable to jump off the tracks in time.

The collision led to delays and the establishment of a bus bridge to take passengers between 30th Street and Balboa Park. Siegel said around 10:30 p.m. that full service was restored within a few minutes.

O'Neill was the 35th person to die this year on San Francisco streets, according to police statistics.
