Mayor Newsom ‘glad’ to be back on YouTube

Budget drama, battles over tax measures and campaigning for statewide office has taken a chunk of time out of Mayor Gavin Newsom’s daily schedule. That’s partly why the mayor took a short hiatus from his infamous Web addresses via YouTube.

“We weren’t able to do them as regularly throughout the budget process the last several weeks, but the mayor is glad to be resuming them again,” said Tony Winnicker, the mayor’s spokesman. “They’re another way for the mayor to reach out to people directly on important issues and accomplishments that don’t always get the attention they deserve.”

Now that the budget is done and the final vote on tax measures will happen today, Newsom has a little more time on his hands, and he is already making a comeback online. The mayor posted his first — in a while — YouTube address Monday, where he touched upon the previous week’s events, including Muni on-time performance and the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Speaking of anniversaries, it’s the Newsoms’ second wedding anniversary, and the mayor gave his wife, Jennifer, a shout-out during his webcast.
